Scripture of the day: "The scribe said to Him, 'Right, Teacher; You have truly stated that He is one, and there is no one else besides Him; and to love Him with all the heart and with all the understanding and with all the strength, and to love one's neighbor as himself, is much more than all burnt offerings and sacrifices.' When Jesus saw that he had answered intelligently, He said to him, 'You are not far from the kingdom of God.' After that, no one would venture to ask Him any more questions." Mark 12:32-34

Thought of the day:  A scribe had heard Jesus answering questions ... and recognized that He had answered them well. Therefore he asked, "What commandment is the foremost of all?" Mark 12:28. Jesus answered the man's question. Then the scribe agreed with the answer that He had given. The man's response was intelligent. Jesus told him that he was not far from the kingdom of God.

Challenge of the day: The obvious question after reading today's Scripture is What does it take to get into the kingdom of God? The scribe knew the law of God ... but that only brought him close to the kingdom. He knew that God is one ... but that is not enough. "You believe that God is one. You do well; the demons also believe, and shudder." James 2:19. Loving God is not enough either. You may love someone very much ... but without saying I do in the marriage ceremony, you may be close to being married without actually being married. The I do establishes the legal marriage contract. Are you sure that you have established a legal contract with God so that you may enter His kingdom?
