Scripture of the day: "Some Pharisees came up to Jesus, testing Him, and began to question Him whether it was lawful for a man to divorce a wife. And He answered and said to them, 'What did Moses command you?' They said, 'Moses permitted a man to write a certificate of divorce and send her away.' But Jesus said to them, 'Because of your hardness of heart he wrote you this commandment. But from the beginning of creation, God made them male and female. For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother, and the two shall become one flesh; so they are no longer two, but one flesh. What therefore God has joined together, let no man separate.' " Mark 10:2-9
Thought of the day: The Pharisees tested Jesus by questioning Him about the legality of divorce. Jesus answered their question with His own question, "What did Moses command you?" Their answer was that Moses did permit divorce. Jesus responded that Moses permitted divorce because of the hardness of man's heart. Then He explained that God planned from creation that marriage was to be permanent. The permission that Moses gave for divorce is not in the Bible. Therefore his permission does not apply today. And Deuteronomy 24:1-4 does not grant permission for divorce ... it explains why divorce is wrong.
Challenge of the day: Take the word divorce out of your vocabulary. God hates divorce, Malachi 2:16. Are you thinking about getting divorced? Don't! Fix your marriage instead ... fast, pray, get counseling ... do whatever it takes to fix it. Are you thinking about getting married? Marry a believer only, 2 Corinthians 6:14. And preferably marry a serious disciple. It is better to spend less time with the right person than more time with the wrong person. Don't let a parent or possible partner push you into a wrong decision.
