December 2
Scripture of the day: "When he had finished speaking, he threw the jawbone from his hand; and he named that place Ramath-lehi. Then he became very thirsty, and he called to the Lord and said, 'You have given this great deliverance by the hand of Your servant, and now shall I die of thirst and fall into the hands of the uncircumcised?' But God split the hollow place that is in Lehi so that water came out of it. When he drank, his strength returned and he revived. Therefore he named it, which is in Lehi to this day." Judges 15:17-19
Thought of the day: The Spirit of the Lord came upon Samson. Then he slew 1,000 enemies with the jawbone of a donkey (see yesterday's eBread). Samson named that place Ramath-lehi ... the high place of the jawbone. Then he became thirsty and prayed for water. God gave him water. Samson named that place En-hakkore ... the Spring of ONE calling.
Challenge of the day: Samson's prayer wasn't presumptuous or sarcastic. He told God that he knew that He was the source of his deliverance. Thankful submission, rather than pride, should be our response to God-given victories. Don't pridefully take credit for His work. After such a great victory Samson was thirsty. He told God that without water he might die and fall into the hands of the enemy. God overlooked that exaggeration ... and miraculously gave him water. Samson's request for water was simple and direct. It was childlike. Which do you think God enjoyed more ... giving the victory over 1,000 or giving the water? God is concerned about your basic needs. You are His child ... so pray like a child about your basic needs. And what do you think about Samson naming those two places? Wouldn't doing that give you a great reminder of His gifts?
