Scripture of the day: "And He summoned the crowd with His disciples, and said to them, 'If anyone wishes to come after Me, he must deny himself, and take up his cross and follow Me. For whoever wishes to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake and the gospel's will save it. For what does it profit a man to gain the whole world, and forfeit his soul? For what will a man give in exchange for his soul? For whoever is ashamed of Me and My words in this adulterous and sinful generation, the Son of Man will also be ashamed of him when He comes in the glory of His Father with the holy angels.'" Mark 8:34-38
Thought of the day: Jesus spoke some strong words. He made it very clear that following Him would not be easy. He said that being His disciple includes denying self, carrying a cross, and following Him. And Jesus warned against a man wishing to save his life ... seeking worldly gain at the price of his soul ... and being ashamed of Him and His words.
Challenge of the day: Did you miss something in His warnings? Did you miss His emphasis on witnessing? Jesus said, "Whoever loses his life for My sake and the gospel's will save it." And He warned about being ashamed of Him and of His words ... stating that He will be ashamed of you if you are ashamed of Him. The one who truly follows Jesus is unashamed of the Gospel. A silent witness is not a true disciple. Are you an unashamed witness ... a true disciple? Learn the Gospel. Pray for boldness. And then tell someone about Jesus. Don't just pray about it ... do it!
